History:
A Society received Ordinances in 1478 and the Company its first Charter in 1604. Turners made wooden cups, platters and ale measures, as well as furniture and machine tools. The modern Livery of about 170 includes many engineers. Numerous engineering, woodworking and design awards are made and financial help is given to a number of charities.

A former Hall stood in Philpot Lane from 1591. This was destroyed in 1666 but rebuilt in 1670. It was given up in 1737 and a new Hall acquired in College Hill. This was sold in 1766 and not replaced.
