History:
A Brotherhood was established in 1403 and chartered in 1557. It controlled publication of books which until 1911 were registered at Stationers' Hall. The Livery of 450 is totally connected with the trade. The Company's School (1858) moved to Hornsey in 1895. Trade and general charities are supported, also travelling scholarships.

The present site off Ludgate Hill was bought in 1611. This was burned in 1666, rebuilt by 1673, and refronted in 1800 by Robert Mylne. A wing was rebuilt in 1888. Having suffered severely in the Second World War the Hall was restored in 1950-6 with Geoffrey Gurney as architect. The dining capacity is 183.
