History:
The Company first met in 1926, received its Charter in 1930 and its Livery in 1932, the first new Livery for 223 years. It is limited to Master Mariners of at least five years' competency and has a Livery of 300. It publishes nautical information and aids nautical schools, needy navigating officers or needy dependents.

The Hall is unique, being HQS Wellington, a former sloop. It was acquired in 1947. The accommodation includes a spacious Hall with dining capacity of 108, offices, library and a model room. HQS Wellington also houses the offices of the Scriveners' Company.
