History:
The Hall, first mentioned in 1522 on the present site, was burnt in 1666 and rebuilt for opening in
1671. It was partly rebuiilt in 1885-6, suffered slight damage in the First World War and severe damage
in the Second. In 1950-2 it was partly rebuilt with Col E D J Mathews as architect. Offices and basement
were added in 1958-9.

After mentions as Hostellers in the 14th and 15th centuries, the first Charter was granted in 1514,
the name Innholders distinguishing them from the servant hostlers. The present Livery of a little over
a 100 has some connections with the trade. Homes for aged persons have been opened at Wimbledon,
with three at Tunbridge Wells.
