History:
The early craft was in the hands of such Companies as the Turners and the Upholders. In 1952 a Guild was formed which was granted a Livery in 1963. The Livery, numbering about 250, is limited to makers, retailers and designers of furniture. Many scholarships are given to promote the craft and good design.
