History:
Certainly existed in 1494 and received their first Charter in 1571, when they joined with the Spurriers. Earlier blacksmiths were official toothdrawers. There is a Prime Warden plus three Wardens. They now support the City and Guilds of London Institute, award trophies at several rural shows and contribute to many charities. The Livery numbers nearly 250.

The former Hall existed in Lambeth Hill (the site now occupied by the Salvation Army Headquarters) from 1494 to 1666, when it was destroyed. A new Hall was opened in 1671 but fell out of use, and the lease terminated in 1785.
