General Information
This area of our web site is where we put all sorts of
links and interesting snippets of information about heraldic and related matters which we have gathered over the years. Some of these might eventually find their way into a future edition of Cracroft's Peerage.....some of them might not. Whatever happens, we hope you find them interesting!
- National Heraldic Authorities:
- England - The College of Arms
- Scotland - The Court of the Lord Lyon
- Ireland - The Genealogical Office, Dublin
- Canada - The Canadian Heraldic Authority
- Heraldry Societies:
- England - The Heraldry Society
- Scotland - The Heraldry Society of Scotland
- Canada - The Heraldry Society of Canada
- Manorial Lordships and Feudal Titles
- There is a lot of interest these days in English manorial lordships, Scottish feudal baronies, etc. This article attempts to give a balanced view for the potential purchaser.
- Letters Patent, Royal Warrants, Etc.
- An interesting article giving examples of various letters patent, royal warrants, etc.
- Heraldry of the City of London Livery Companies
- This is a whole study in itself. You will find here depictions of the arms of the Livery Companies together with some general articles on the Livery as a whole as well as details of each Company.
- Self-styled Orders of Chivalry
- They say you can buy anything you want on the Internet, and should you fancy a title or a knighthood
then they are plenty of sellers who are only too pleased to be of help to you. Now whether these titles
or knighthoods are of any true value is another question entirely. In this section we are reproducing
some of the articles on self-styled Orders of Chivalry (that is to say Orders of Chivalry that
are of dubious origins, to say the least, and are not recognised by any competent authority, i.e. a Government, or a current or former Ruling Royal
House) that
we posted on our old British Heraldic Archive site. We make no judgement about these and invite
the reader to make up his or her own mind...
